Following the DePuy hip recall of the ASR hip replacement, patients implanted with the metal-on-metal DePuy Pinnacle hip have reported problems which are similar to the recalled ASR devices. DePuy Pinnacle Metal Poisoning

Reportedly, when a metal liner is used, the DePuy Pinnacle hip can put patients at risk for metallosis. An inflammatory reaction, metallosis may develop as the hip implant’s metal components rub against each other and shed small metal particles into the body. This DePuy Pinnacle complication can lead to tissue and muscle damage, resulting in hip implant failure which typically requires corrective surgery.
