Bunions

A bunion is a combination of the swelling of soft tissue and bone enlargement. Bunions often causes the big toe to appear bent in toward the other toes, and the resulting protrusion may make wearing certain types of shoes painful. Pain around ball of the big toe is characteristic of bunions, and genetic and biomechanical defects are generally to blame for their growth.

To treat bunions, the big toe should be separated from the others with a piece of foam approximately one centimeter thick. A podiatrist can prescribe personalized foot orthotics to correct the problem.
