Blisters

Blisters are the result of friction from shoes or socks that rub against the skin. A blister is a small bubble of fluid that builds up between the skin's inner and outer layers.

Blisters usually heal on their own as new skin forms and the fluid is reabsorbed by the body. Should a blister burst, pressure should be applied gently to release the fluid, and the area should be covered with a sterile dressing in order to prevent infection.

Blisters can be prevented by wearing well-fitting shoes and clean, dry socks. It is also important to break in shoes gradually to reduce excessive rubbing or friction. Blisters are more likely to develop on moist skin, so changing socks during the day if feet sweat or after exercising will help.
