Defective Airbags
Airbags now come standard in every vehicle manufactured in the US, but as with anything mechanical, they are bound to fail at some point. In addition to front airbags, newer automobiles come equipped with side and rear-impact airbags, so the odds of an airbag malfunctioning are only going to increase.
A faulty airbag can result in serious consequences for anybody involved in a forceful crash. We depend on them to protect us in a dangerous situation and absorb the bulk of the impact, hopefully leaving us with minimal injuries. People injured in an auto accident due to a defective airbag have the right to be compensated for the ensuing damages. There are two ways which an airbag can malfunction:
- Failure to deploy -- airbag fails to inflate during an auto accident, causing the occupants to undergo severe injuries to the head and face.
- Inadvertent deployment -- airbag inflates during normal driving, blocking the driver's view and possibly causing them to lose control of the vehicle, crash, and sustain serious injuries.
Faulty airbags and children
Child safety seat manufacturers realize the correlation between their products, airbags, and the injuries that the combination of the two can cause. Airbags are not designed with people who are small in stature in mind. Instead, people of average size and weight are their target group. Since these seats and airbags don't really work well together, children require extra attention to guarantee their safety. There will be a lot of restless parents out there until something is done to resolve this problem.
