While the FDA continues to monitor a possible increased risk of Actos bladder cancer among users, health regulators in Europe have taken further precautions. French health regulators have suspended use of the diabetes pill after a study, which compared 155,000 Actos users and 1.3 million diabetics not taking the drug, revealed an increased risk of bladder cancer among users of the diabetes drug. In light of this same study, German health regulators initially cautioned doctors against writing new prescriptions for the drug, but have since suspended the use of the drug.

After a review of data from a long-term study of Actos and bladder cancer, the FDA released an announcement in June 2011 to alert the public that use of the drug for more than a year may increase the patient's risk of bladder cancer. While the data did not reveal an overall increased risk of Actos bladder cancer, the agency did state that patients with the longest exposure to Actos had an increased risk of this form of cancer. The agency also announced that it was aware of the French Actos study which revealed an increased risk of bladder cancer among Actos users.
Because the manufacturer may have failed to warn patients of a possible Actos bladder cancer risk, users of Actos, ActoPlus Met, ActoPlus Met XR, or Duetact who developed cancerous tumors of the bladder may have legal recourse. Potentially, these individuals may be able to participate in an Actos bladder cancer lawsuit to seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from their condition.
