Achilles Tendon Injuries

The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in the body. It connects the heel to the calf muscles. When the calf muscles pull the tendon, the foot is pushed downward, making it possible to stand on the toes, walk, run and jump. Overuse, misalignment and improper footwear can damage the tendon, but resting and strengthening exercises resolve most ailments.

Common Achilles tendon injuries include:

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Achilles tendon rupture
  • Achilles bursitis
